Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian said Wednesday he would expect concrete accomplishments from the warning of Director General Oscar Albayalde, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), that the internal cleansing of his organization would be “chilling and bloody.”

“I expect General Albayalde to present concrete accomplishments in the PNP’s internal cleansing campaign when he appears before Congress to defend his agency’s budget,” Gatchalian said in a statement.

The neophyte senator said the PNP’s progress in expelling “dirty cops” would be a “major factor in deciding its final budget for next year.”

Gatchalian’s comment came just a day after a kidnap-for-ransom incident involving Taguig police officers took place.

“General Albayalde had better make good on his word,” he said. “Yesterday’s kidnapping-for-ransom incident involving disgraced cops on the wrong side of the law shows that the PNP still has a long way to go in cleansing its ranks of scalawags.”

On Tuesday, a police officer from Taguig was killed and three other officers were nabbed during an entrapment operation conducted by the Southern Police District.

The kidnap-for-ransom group allegedly extorted P50,000 from a couple in Bicutan, Taguig.
