Fire hit and destroyed a portion of a cargo vessel docked at a Zamboanga City port, the Philippine Coast Guard PCG said.

According to the PCG, fire struck MV Buansa 2 at the port of Baliwasan Seaside around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. The flames were put out 30 minutes later.

The cargo ship had 13 passengers and seven crewmembers aboard when the blaze occurred.

Initial investigation showed the fire might have started at the ship’s bow where some of the crew were “conducting hot works/welding repair.”

All 20 passengers and crewmembers managed to immediately evacuate the vessel and are currently in safe condition. /kga
