Storm Jongdari continues to move away from PH

Severe Tropical Storm Jongdari (international name) posed a lesser threat to the Philippines as it continued to move away from the country but rains are still expected.

The storm was last spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 1,725 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said midday on Thursday.

Jongdari was earlier expected to enter PAR but the storm changed its course.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon remains the dominant weather system in Luzon and the Visayas.

Thunderstorms expected over parts of Luzon and Visayas including Metro Manila.   /vvp
