House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez met on Wednesday morning for the first time since a dramatic power shift happened in the House of Representatives on Monday.
The former President-turned-Pampanga representative met ousted Speaker Alvarez at his office, Pampanga 3rd District Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. said.
Gonzales, as reported by Radyo Inquirer 990, said Arroyo offered her office to Alvarez, which is just beside the Speaker’s office. Alvarez meanwhile requested that he leave his room on Monday.
In an ambush interview, Arroyo said she would “give the Speaker (Alvarez) all the time he needs to go to his new office.”
“He can choose. He can choose what room he wants,” she added.
Asked if Alvarez promised his cooperation with her leadership, Arroyo said: “Looks like it.”
On Monday, Arroyo took Alvarez’s post after 184 House members elected her as the new Speaker. She ended Alvarez’s two-year grip on the post, becoming the first woman to hold the post in the country’s history. /vvp
