CHR supports ratification of Bangsamoro Organic Law

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has expressed support to the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).

“The Commission on Human Rights recognizes the struggle of Moro people in Southern Philippines for peace and self-determination, as we are against historical injustice and oppression within the framework of the 1987 Constitution,” the CHR said in a statement on Tuesday.

The House of Representatives ratified the BOL before its afternoon session was suspended on Tuesday.

The BOL was supposed to be ratified before President Rodrigo Duterte’s third State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday (July 23), but was set aside due to the internal leadership squabble in the House.

In a surprise move, Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was elected as the new House Speaker after receiving 184 votes from House members, replacing Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez Pantaleon Alvarez. /ee
