Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said he wanted President Rodrigo Duterte to stick to his prepared speeches.

Roque said he has promised the President, who is known to deliver long impromptu speeches, to look for “better” speechwriters so that he would read his speeches during his engagements.

Host and singer Martin Nievera asked Roque in a Palace briefing on Thursday what advice he would give to Duterte. He responded, “When he speaks, stick with the prepared script.”

“I have promised him that I will help for better speechwriters who will actually write speeches that he will actually read,” he added.

Duterte has repeatedly said that he veers away from his two- or three-page speech to express his sentiment.

Roque earlier quoted Duterte as saying that he would read his prepared speech during his third State of the Nation Address (Sona) on July 23.

“I will read my Sona speech which should not be more than 35 minutes,” Duterte was quoted as saying.
