The local government of Marikina City has maintained the alert level on Marikina River at the second alarm after waters rose again on Wednesday.
According to the live video feed from the Facebook page of Marikina City’s Public Information Office (PIO), the water level at Sto. Niño bridge breached the 16-meter mark at 1:45 p.m.
Water level at the river was already thought to be receding after it went down to 15.8 meters by Tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m.
However, continuous light rain showers and occasional moderate downpour on the eastern city brought the level back to 15.9 meters again by noon.
As of Marikina PIO’s last reading at 2:50 p.m., the level was at 16.1 meters.
On Tuesday, at least 300 individuals living in flood-prone areas were evacuated by authorities from Marikina government and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) after the river reached the second alarm.
Classes in all levels for both private and public schools in the city were also suspended, in anticipation of monsoon rains and flooding.

The Marikina government will offer voluntary evacuation if the water level at the river reaches 17 meters, while forced evacuation will be conducted on the third alarm, which will occur when the level reaches 18 meters.
