Foreign tourists are being filmed and humiliated online after doing the “walk of shame” in Magaluf, a popular European holiday resort town in the island of Majorca, Spain.
Armed with filming devices and gadgets, men embarrass tourists who do the “walk of shame” by posting clips on a Facebook page called Maga Walk of Shame Official. “Walk of shame” in this context is defined as an instance when one walks back home, usually dressed in the clothes worn the night before, after a casual sexual encounter.
Filming equipment in tow, men accost women and men alike, asking them with whom they had sex with: “Was s/he a worker or was s/he a tourist?”
It is worth noting, however, that while the men who took the videos talked to both sexes, majority of their videos are of women. Moreover, the camera-wielding men were more forward with their actions and questions with their female victims.
Netizens have different reactions when it comes to the videos posted. Some found the videos hilarious.
Some netizens, however, did not find the videos entertaining. Some commenters pointed out the fact that what the men were doing was an invasion of privacy of the tourists. One netizen, trans equality supporter Inari Tara Thomas, called out the camera-wielding men, asking them to stop “being creepy and harassing women.”
One of the camera-wielding men, a blonde bearded DJ named David King clarified in a comment that them filming tourists was a joke between him and his friends in the resort town. His response was made after a netizen commented that the camera-wielding men will not be able to harass Scandinavian girls the same way they do British girls.
This was not the first time the Facebook page was called out for filming tourists. Last year, the page’s videos came under fire as well. JB
