DAVAO CITY — President Rodrigo Duterte’s special assistant Bong Go on Sunday said Senator Manny Pacquiao, who won on his WBA Welterweight Title bout against Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia, showed to the world that Filipinos are not only fighting in the boxing ring but also in real life.
“Pacman’s fight is always for the country. He is giving all his best to show to the world that Filipinos are not only fighting in the ring but in real life as well,” said Go, who watched the fight along with the President in Kuala Lumpur.
He added that the boxing icon’s win brought pride and honor to Filipinos everywhere.
“Isa na naman itong karangalan, hindi lang para kay Manny, ngunit para sa lahat ng Pilipino sa buong mundo (This is another honor, not only for Manny, but to all Filipinos in the whole world),” he said.
The President’s top aide also hoped that Pacquiao’s victory would serve as an inspiration for Filipinos to “lift themselves up from poverty through courage, excellence, and faith in God.”
“He is always an inspiration. From poverty, he took out his family through sports. Most of all, he used his honor to help his poor countrymen,” he added.
Pacquiao’s seventh round knockout against Argentinian Matthysse improved his record to 60 wins with 39 knockouts, 7 losses and 2 draws. With a report from INQUIRER.net
