2 Nigerian students hurt in Pangasinan brawl

DAGUPAN CITY — Two Nigerian students were hurt on Sunday night  after they were mauled by fellow Nigerians in a bar in Mangaldan town in Pangasinan province, police said on Monday.

Christian Philip Emmanuel, 25, and Clinton Philip Abubu, 22, were among a group of seven Nigerians who were enjoying drinks at a bar when another group of Nigerians arrived  around 10:30 p.m. and began singing their national anthem.

After singing, Celestine Taylor, one of the Nigerian latecomers reportedly head-butted Orange, one of Emmanuel’s and Abubu’s companions, triggering a scuffle.

As cooler heads intervened, Taylor’s group took Orange, and another Nigerian named Ocean, and sped towards San Fabian town. The other group took two cars and fled towards this city.

Emmanuel suffered a laceration on the back and was treated at the Mapandan Community Hospital in Mapandan town. /ee
