Two low pressure areas (LPAs) are now being monitored by the state weather bureau, with one likely turning into a tropical depression.
In a weather update on Saturday, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said one LPA was spotted at 460 kilometers east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
The other LPA was spotted 1,705 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR)
Ignacio also noted that the LPA outside the PAR would likely develop into a tropical depression and would enter the PAR over the weekend.
“Mas mataas po ang tyansa na maging bagyo ito pong nasa labas ng PAR dahil nga nasa karagatan pa rin siya, maari pa po siyang mag gain ng energy or magdevelop sa bagyo,” Ignacio said.
“Pero ito pong nasa loob ng ating Philippine area of responsibility, hindi rin po natin inaalis ang posibilidad na maging ganap bagyo, pero continuous monitoring po tayo,” she added.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will continue to bring rain over Western Visayas, Palawan, Mindoro, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite and Batangas.
Pagasa warns residents in the said areas to prepare for possible flash floods or landslides triggered by light to at times heavy rains.
Metro Manila, the Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, Bulacan, Pampanga, Laguna, Rizal and Quezon provinces, will meanwhile have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, caused by the southwest monsoon. /muf
