The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started suspension proceedings against 43 contractors involved in over 400 government projects nationwide for failing to meet completion targets.
A contractor may be sanctioned by the DPWH if it has already recorded a 15-percent slippage rate.
This means that even though a project is expected to be 25-percent complete this month, the contractor has finished only 10 percent.
“If they can’t [catch up], we’ll cancel the contract and bid [out] the project again,” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said.—JOVIC YEE
