Downpour floods only some areas

The floodwatch monitoring arm of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported slight floods hitting some areas due to yesterday’s downpour caused by the southwest monsoon and which beset Metro Manila.

The floods recorded in some streets in the northern part of Metro subsided before noon but the rain dumped on southern metro did not result to floods, according to MMDA.

Lascano and Tugatog Streets and Letre Road area in Malabon City became passable to light vehicles after the knee-deep level or 19 inches of floodwater subsided at 10 a.m.

The road near R. Papa Station of LRT in Manila and the C4-Letre Interchange Road in Malabon also got gutter-level or 8 inches of rainfall but this subsided by past 10 a.m.

MacArthur Street in Valenzuela City and Samson Road, Lapu-Lapu Street, northbound lane of A. de Jesus Street and the LRT Monumento in Caloocan City recorded gutter-level or 8 inches of floodwater but immediately subsided before noon.

Flood-prone areas

The MMDA has identified eight flood-prone zones across Metro Manila, which include Sampaloc and Rizal Avenue corner R. Papa in Manila; Makati Diversion Channel along South Superhighway and Buendia in Makati City; Maysilo Circle, Boni Avenue, Panaderos Street, Kalentong Street, Acacia Lane and Shaw Boulevard, all in Mandaluyong City; Barangay (village) Salapan and Bagong Bato in San Juan City; and Barangay Imelda, Damayong Lagi, Tatalon and Talayan in Quezon City.
