A 33-year-old man was arrested in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan yesterday, July 9, after pretending to be blind to be able to grope a saleswoman’s chest.
Yosuke Mizokami was apprehended by the police after being identified using the store’s security video, as reported by Yahoo! Japan News/Jiji and Hachima Kiko via SoraNews24 today, July 10.
One unnamed 26-year-old cosmetic saleswoman in a department store in Tokyo’s Chuo Ward was working her shift on Feb. 28, when she was approached by a man in his early 30s. “I can’t see,” reportedly said the man who was squinting. He then asked for her aid in finding the restroom.
The saleswoman helped lead the “blind” man to the men’s comfort room. However, the man stumbled and fell on the floor before they could even arrive.
The woman quickly crouched down to help the man who took the opportunity to “grab and fondle” the woman’s chest, as stated in the report. The “blind” man then speedily escaped the crime scene.
A police report on the incident was made and after looking through the store’s security videos, the police realized that the man, who was later revealed to be Mizokami, was just pretending to be visually impaired since he appeared to have navigated the store easily. The man was also seen checking out the female staff before he chose his victim.
The police is now investigating whether Mizokami is involved in other cases of a men pretending to be blind to grope saleswomen in both Tokyo and Kanagawa. Kate Matriano/JB
