Speed limits on 2 other QC roads eyed

Soon, motorists plying two other major roads in Quezon City will be following speed limits like the one now imposed on Commonwealth Avenue.

The Quezon City government is mulling the possibility of imposing speed limits on the other two thoroughfares in a bid to instill discipline on drivers using these roads.

Mayor Herbert Bautista said up next will be Mindanao Avenue and Elliptical Road as he has instructed the Department of Public Order and Safety to study the feasibility of imposing speed limits.

The result of the study will be submitted as recommendations to the Metro Manila Development Authority.

For Mindanao Avenue, Bautista said he wants to impose the same 60 kilometer speed limit being enforced along Commonwealth Avenue.

The city mayor is thinking of imposing a lower speed limit for Elliptical Road.

“This move to impose speed limits on the two other major roads are part of efforts to ensure both the commuters and pedestrians’ safety,” Bautista said.

He explained that road accidents usually result from motorists’ overspeeding and reckless driving.

The city government is also forming a traffic management plan which will include the continuous conduct of seminars for drivers of public utility vehicles plying major thoroughfares in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, Bautista said he will review and study the ordinance on the selling and serving of liquor, as well as its implementing rules and regulations.

He explained that he wants to determine whether driving under the influence of liquor deserve stricter sanctions especially with the frequency of vehicular mishaps.

Bautista has tasked the DPOS and the Quezon City Police District to submit statistics on the causes of traffic accidents in Quezon City.
