Thunderstorms are likely to occur in Metro Manila and nearby areas in the next two hours, the government weather agency warned midday Monday.

In its 11 a.m. thunderstorm advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said moderate to heavy rains with lightning and strong winds are forecast over Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Pampanga within the next 1-2 hours.

Pagasa encouraged residents of these areas to take precautionary measures against the impact of the thunderstorms.

As of this posting, the same weather conditions are being experienced in Bataan, Cavite (Dasmarinas, GMA, Carmona, Bacoor, Imus, Tanza, Gen. Trias), Laguna (San Pedro, Binan), and Zambales (San Narciso, San Antonio, Castillejos, Olongapo, Subic), and which may persist within 2 hours, according to Pagasa.

Typhoon “Gardo”, which international name is “Maria”, is enhancing the prevailing southwest monsoon in the country, Pagasa said.   /kga
