Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde said one of the angles they were pursuing in the investigation into the killing of Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili was a disagreement between the local executive and a “high-ranking former general.”

“Meron din siyang nakaaway na former general, high-ranking….Hindi ko lang sure kung ano talaga ang naging puno’t dulo ng away nila (He had a dispute with a high ranking former general… I’m just not sure about the details of their quarrel),” the police chief said.

Albayalde, however, declined to give further details, saying it was still part of an investigation.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier expressed his suspicion that Halili was involved in the illegal drug trade. Halili’s family has since denied this allegation./ac
