About 416 empty shells for a .38 caliber handgun were found by airport authorities inside the luggage of a still unidentified local female passenger at the Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Wednesday.

According to a report from the MIAA, the passenger arrived at the Terminal 2 of the NAIA  last July 2 from Honolulu with a connecting flight to Laoag.

MIAA said that during an x-ray inspection, airport personnel Dominic Charize Almazan saw an image of what appears to be bullets  placed inside a plastic bag inside the passenger’s luggage.

Airline and security personnel then looked for the owner of the luggage before conducting a manual inspection.

When the passenger was found, airport authorities opened the luggage in her presence and saw the 416 shells inside.

“The passenger disclosed during the inquiry that the box belonged to her brother-in-law who requested her to bring it.  She further claimed that she was assured that only clothes were inside the box,” the MIAA said.

The shells were turned over to airport officials and the incident has been put on record.

The passenger was then allowed to take her flight to Laoag.  /muf
