The Sandiganbayan has found a former Zamboanga Del Norte town mayor guilty of not liquidating her travel expenses from July 2010 to October 2012.

Anjanette Sulit, former mayor of La Libertad town was found guilty of violating Article 218 (Failure of Accountable Officer to Render Accounts) of the Revised Penal Code.

According to the anti-graft court, Sulit allegedly received P92,476 as cash advance for travel expenses but repeatedly failed to liquidate her accounts within the timeframe required by the Commission on Audit.

Sulit was ordered by the Sandiganbayan to pay the fine of P6,000.

The Ombudsman said Sulit presented a certification last September showing she had returned the amount to the municipal government.

Sulit initially reportedly pleaded “not guilty” but later changed her plea to “guilty” after assuring the court that she understood the accusation lodged against her.  /muf
