Solons ask gov’t to freeze the ball on prices

Several congressmen joined calls for government regulators to stop plans to increase residential rent, airfare and water fees amid rising inflation, a weakening peso and new taxes.

Gabriela Rep. Emmi de Jesus said President Duterte should act on plans by two water concessionaires—Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water — to impose “tsunami-like” water rate increases.

Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel cautioned the Civil Aeronautics Board against allowing airlines to collect fuel surcharge.

Bagong Henerasyon Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy called on the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating  Council to postpone rent increases or reduce the amount of increase.— JEROME ANING
