Bishops told by PNP priests are not police targets

/ 06:46 AM June 29, 2018

Priests are not targets. Philippine National Police chief Oscar Albayalde gave this assurance to leaders of the Catholic Church in a dialogue over a series of killings of priests.

“We were assured that we were really not targets,” said Fr. Jerome Secillano, public affairs committee executive secretary of Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Albayalde, recalling his conversation with bishops at the CBCP office in Manila, said he assured Church leaders that “police are operating within the limits of the law.”

“What’s good about this meeting is that the communication lines are now open,” Secillano said.— TINA G. SANTOS
