Heist pulled off in Manila  with toy gun

TWO MEN, one of them    armed with a toy gun, robbed Thursday evening a remittance and money transfer station in Manila, taking with them more than P130,000 cash. The robbers later left behind  a  toy gun they used while they fled with their loot stolen from an LBC branch at  J&T Building along Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard near Santol Street in Sta. Mesa. SPO2 William Gondranios, of the Manila Police District (MPD) theft and robbery section, said that the incident happened at around 8:30 p.m., Thursday, while  Linder Mista, an employee of the firm, was locking up for the night. Police said Mista was accosted by two men, one of whom had  a .45 caliber pistol, and ordered him to open the door.  After the drawers has been ransacked, the robbers threw away a pistol that turned out to be a toy before they fled. Just the other day, two knife-wielding men pulled a heist at the LBC  remittance and courier service center inside Robinson’s Mall in Fairview, Quezon City.    Jeannette I. Andrade

Broker shot dead

A CUSTOMS broker was shot and killed by six men on board separate motorcycles at about 7:30 p.m. at the corner of CDC and Malindang Streets in Barangay N.S. Amoranto, Quezon City on Thursday. Insp. Elmer Monsalve, head of the Quezon City Police District homicide investigation section identified the victim as Jason Ignacio, 33, a supervisor of Andita Jamasco Laroya Brokerage. The victim was in his  car when his path was blocked by the suspects who shot him at close range when he got out of his car. PO3 Roland Belgica, officer-on-case, said that based on witnesses’ accounts, two of the suspects were armed with handguns.   A witness added that one of the suspects fired two more shots in the air before they fled. Cash for Scrap 2 winds up

GREENHILLS Shopping Center recently held its second Cash for Scrap environment project for the year. In the two events for the year that were held in cooperation with the San Juan City local government, hundreds of people came from as far as Ibaan, Batangas province to sell their recyclables. Tenants, homeowners from nearby villages, as well as school children, were among those that brought in and sold plastic, electronics, styro and paper waste, used ink cartridges, lead acid batteries as well as busted bulbs.  Cash for Scrap gathers Metro Manila’s top recyclers and environmental advocates to buy recyclable materials in a single venue. It is one of the many environment management initiatives of Greenhills Shopping Center that promotes waste segregation at source, helps turn wastes into cash and educates the public about recycling. The Center is a consistent recipient of the Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Award given by the Department of Energy.
