LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Alarmed by the high incidence of animal bites and deaths due to rabies in Pangasinan province, the provincial board on Monday formed a multiagency task force to stop the menace.
Board Member Jeremy Rosario, chair of the board’s health committee, said 14,655 animal bite cases had been recorded in the first quarter of this year based on data from the provincial health office.
From Jan. 1 to June 11, 38 of 136 dogs examined by the regional animal disease diagnostic laboratory tested positive for rabies.
Six deaths had been recorded this year.
A solution proposed was for the task force to compel owners to have their dogs vaccinated. —Gabriel Cardinoza
