The Metropolitan Water Works and Sewerage System (MWSS) welcomed the proposed Senate inquiry into the state of waste water treatment in Metro Manila.
MWSS administrator Reynaldo Velasco also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to carry out its responsibilities as stipulated in Republic Act No. 9275, or the Philippine Clean Water Act.
Inquiry
Sen. Cynthia Villar, chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, has filed Senate Resolution No. 747 seeking an inquiry on the state of waste water treatment in Metro Manila.
“We are continuously working with our concessionaires — Manila Water and Maynilad — to find ways to speed up the establishment of additional sewera ge treatment plants in Metro Manila,” Velasco said.
The Philippine Clean Water Act requires the MWSS to connect the existing sewage lines in all subdivisions, condominiums, commercial centers, hotels, sports and recreational facilities, hospitals, market places, public buildings, industrial complex and other similar establishments including households to available sewerage system.
