SAN PEDRO CITY – A suspected gun runner was killed, while his companion escaped after policemen foiled an illegal gun trade in Dasmariñas City, Cavite province early Wednesday.

The slain suspect was identified as Jomar Manalo, alias Macky Boy, 29, and resident of Dasmariñas City. Manalo’s companion, identified as Johnrey Allas, escaped.

Supt. Alvin Consolacion, chief of Dasmariñas police, said in a phone interview that police received an anonymous report that some men were about to sell illegal firearms in Barangay San Lorenzo 1 past midnight on Wednesday.

Consolacion said the police went to the area to verify the “tip” but the suspects scampered away.

“The people they were about to sell the guns to had not arrived yet,” said Consolacion, adding that police investigation to identify the suspects’ patrons continued.

Police chased Manalo inside his house. Manalo shot a police officer, prompting the law enforcers to shoot him down.

The police said they recovered a .38 caliber gun and an improvised shotgun “that certainly did not have licenses for,” Consolacion said.

They also recovered five sachets of suspected shabu (crystal meth) from Manalo.
