On Independence Day, Google Doodle celebrates ‘abundance of PH seas’

Google Doodle for Philippine Independence Day 2018

Google Philippines celebrated the 120th year of Philippine Independence on Tuesday with a Google Doodle honoring the marine diversity of the country.

A Google Doodle is a temporary alteration of Google’s logo to honor people or mark holidays or achievements.

In a statement, Google Philippines said, “On June 12, visitors clicking on the Doodle on Google Philippines’ homepage will discover more about this part of Filipino heritage, and the life and abundance of the Philippine seas.”

Google noted that the Philippines is home to around 2,000 aquatic species and long clusters of corals, making the country the “center of marine biodiversity” in the world.

In the previous years, Google highlighted the Pinoy jeepney, the tradition of bayanihan, and showcased the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite where independence was declared in June 1898.

Recently, Google Philippines also included musician Levi Celerio and poet Francisco Balagtas in its doodles.  /vvp
