MANILA, Philippines — Some local government units suspended classes on Monday, August 5, due to bad weather, and the expected heavy traffic because of a transportation protest.
The state weather bureau, in its latest forecast, said the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will continue to bring rain to parts of Southern Luzon and Visayas on Monday.
Meanwhile, various transport groups are set to conduct a nationwide protest called “AKKAP MO Synchronize Unity Walk.”
They are demanding the repeal of a Senate resolution suspending the implementation of the Public Transport Modernization Program.

Below is the list of areas that suspended classes:
Navotas City – all levels (both public and private) due to southwest monsoon
Malabon City – all levels (both public and private) due to southwest monsoon
San Jose del Monte, Bulacan – all levels (both public and private) due to transport protest
Additionally, another area in Mindanao suspended classes due to a magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck 67 kilometers off the coasts of Lingig, Surigao del Sur at 6:23 a.m. on Saturday.
The quake also prompted the suspension of classes in both public and private schools in Montevista, Davao de Oro.
