Rain is expected in parts of the country on Thursday

MANILA, Philippines – The low-pressure area (LPA) off Zamboanga del Norte and two other weather systems will bring overcast skies with rain to most parts of the country on Thursday, according to the state weather bureau.

“Expect that most parts of the country will experience rainy weather,” said Aldczar Aurelio, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in an early morning bulletin.

As of 3:00 a.m. Thursday, Aurelio said the LPA was spotted some 45 kilometers northeast of Dipolog City and is moving northwest.

The LPA, which is embedded in the intertropical convergence zone, will bring cloudy skies and scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) region, the Bicol region, Quezon, Laguna, Rizal, Dinagat Islands, and the entire Visayas, Aurelio said.

He added that similar conditions are forecast in Aurora and Quirino, but they are caused by easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience fairer weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and chances of isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

Aurelio said the LPA is less likely to intensify into a tropical cyclone.

Pagasa did not raise gale warnings over any of the country’s seaboards.
