MANILA, Philippines — A woman scheduled to visit her cousin inside the New Bilibid Prison (BPN) was arrested after she was caught smuggling drugs inside the facility, according to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

In a statement on Monday, BuCor identified the visitor as Wilmar Castro. Before the inspection, Corrections Officer (CO) 1 Everlyn Mary Pingian caught Castro allegedly inserting something inside her private parts on Sunday.

BuCor said this prompted Pingian to conduct a strip search on Castro. The Bucor official likewise ordered her to squat several times, which resulted in the discovery of a tube containing suspected crystal meth, locally known as shabu.

Based on BuCor’s report, Castro was about to visit her cousin, Jeric Fino, an inmate at Dorm 4B, Medium Security Camp of NBP.

Castro is now under the custody of Muntinlupa police, while the confiscated substance was turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

In line with her latest accomplishment, BuCor director Gregorio Pio Catapang ordered the promotion of Pingian from CO1 to CO2 to show “what a true corrections officer should be because she does not just do her job, but she does it well.”
