QC partners with DENR for climate change mitigation project

MANILA, Philippines—Quezon City partnered with the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on a project to mitigate the effects of climate change.
According to the city government, the Transdisciplinary Approach towards Resilience and Environmental Sustainability through Multi Stakeholder Engagement (Transform) project will have multiple goals, such as minimizing the emission of greenhouse gases, encouraging biodiversity, and other means such as financial literacy and disaster management, among others.
“We extend our appreciation for your commitment to sustainable environmental conservation efforts and in building a liveable, green, and sustainable city for present and future generations,” Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga said in a message delivered by DENR Undersecretary Jonas Leones on Monday.
Meanwhile, Quezon City Mayor Ma. Josefina “Joy” Belmonte said that the implementation of the project in the city will give more avenues for other environmental initiatives for its citizens.
“We are very grateful to the national government, through the DENR, for recognizing the city’s environmental action. Through the implementation of Project TRANSFORM in QC, we look forward to developing and enacting more green, sustainable, and inclusive climate initiatives for QCitizens,” Belmonte said.
The DENR has also launched Project Transform in other provinces nationwide, such as in Ormoc City, Leyte,; Malimono, San Francisco, and Burgos Surigao del Norte; as well as in Limay, Mariveles, and Orion, Bataan.
