5 shot, hacked to death in Pangasinan

Five people, including a father and his son, were shot and hacked to death by a group of men who barged into their shanty in Bugallon, Pangasinan, early morning Saturday, police said.

A town mayor who ratted on Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino Jr.’s involvement in “jueteng” in the province on Friday filed plunder charges against his erstwhile boss and political ally, alleging that Espino accepted P900 million payolas from operators of the illegal numbers game.

Basketball behind allies’ split

Blame it on basketball. A disagreement over a referee’s call during a local basketball league involving both their sons triggered the falling out between Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino Jr. and his trusted aide, Bugallon town Mayor Rodrigo Orduña, which led to the latter’s exposé of the governor’s alleged involvement in jueteng (an illegal numbers game).
