MANILA, Philippines? The Year of the Metal Rabbit begins auspiciously on February 3 at exactly 10:31 in the morning.

The good news is: This is the year when money will be made more easily.

And this has nothing to do with the claim of some feng shui ?experts??which has become a pass-around text?regarding January 2011 being unusual and special for having 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. The text message claims that these are money sacs so one can expect an abundance of various currencies to flow into one?s life. They emphasize that a time such as this occurs only once every 823 years.

Nice thought, but our investigation shows that these are just claims and nothing else.

However, this does not detract from the fact that money will be made more easily in the Rabbit year.

Furthermore, on the Metal Rabbit year, refinement and good taste will be everywhere evident, propelling the arts and all that is related to it to prosper.

In the East, the rabbit symbolizes good manners, kindness, sound counsel and sensitivity to beauty, and the metal in the rabbit will make him physically sturdier and more mentally acute. He becomes intensely focused on his goals, creative urges and bringing to pass all his desires.

Year of tranquility

From a year of drama, boldness and excitement, we enter a new year of tranquility, serenity and luxury. Friendly persuasion will pervade the atmosphere rather than force of any kind, a time when discretion truly becomes the better part of valor. Graciousness and diplomacy take center stage.

The influences that impel each sign for the year of the Metal Rabbit are as follows:

Aries?Calm is restored to you in the Year of 2011. The winds of fortune blow on your sails again. Home life is settled and finances are stabilized.

Taurus?A very busy year is in store for you ... many promises left unfulfilled are now ready to be fulfilled, leaving little time to spend with those near and dear. Money flows in and out easily but lots to smile about though.

Gemini?A very good year awaits you especially in investments. Life moves on smoothly but gets very involved. Expect happy news from many quarters. A safe year to venture here, there and everywhere.

Cancer?Gains at work and in finances. Focus on keeping the home front in order to avoid upheavals due to past neglect. No rushing?just keep everything nice and easy. Gains outnumber losses.

Bright prospects

Leo?Prospects are bright once more attracting help from the most unlikely people or places. Tranquility emerges at work and at home. Time to seek out new opportunities or make significant and dramatic changes in the environment.

Virgo?Remain conservative this year in all areas. No get-rich-quick schemes. Due diligence is highly recommended. A year of joining forces instead of doing it alone.

Libra?A most favorable year for your aspirations. Nice year to start your own business or expand your existing one by going into a partnership. You can do a lot for your benefit and the benefit of others at this time. Problems are solved quickly and in peace.

Scorpio?A year of much entertaining and socializing. Financial gains are indicated. And you are able to consolidate your position to a very high decree. Obstacles are still there but no major obstruction.

Sagittarius?A calm and quiet year. Money should be handled more carefully and wisely. Also, communication must be done with more clarity and precision to avoid misunderstanding at work or in the home. New and good contacts are made this year.

Capricorn?Time to tie up loose ends left undone in the past year and settle various other situations. Health remains sound and progress is steady.

Mix Western, Eastern signs

Aquarius?A happier year is in store for you. Love and business affairs are in the upswing and things are generally more rosy and any obstacle is easily overcome. Good news is forthcoming.

Pisces?A most auspicious year for the Pisceans. Financial success, promotions, career advancements are indicated. Plans are easily executed and happy tidings are also experienced in the home front.

For more insights, one can combine the Western and Eastern signs as indicated in the accompanying table.

To illustrate: The Dragon is the equivalent of the Western sign of Aries and the Snake is equivalent to the Western sign of Taurus. Thus, if you were born in the Year of the Dragon and you are a Taurean you can read the indications for both the Dragon and the Snake.

What?s in store for Aquino?

For example, President Aquino was born in the Year of the Rat. But having been born on February 8, under the sign of Aquarius, the equivalent of which is the Tiger in the Eastern zodiac, he can therefore read the indications for both the Rat and the Tiger to discover a more extensive version of what?s in store for him in the Year of the Metal Rabbit.

To start off the year auspiciously, here?s an affirmation for the Year of the Metal Rabbit:

?I am a curious explorer
I am a lover of beauty
I am a giver of happiness
I am a student of the soul
I am a happy contributor to peace.?
