Man killed as car explodes in front of Taguig condo

MANILA, Philippines?A car exploded in front of an upscale condominium in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, shortly after noon Tuesday, killing the driver who was burned beyond recognition.

Police identified the victim as Remigio Ang, a businessman from Bacolod who lived in the building.

Ang was driving his Honda Civic car (TNM 865) when it blew up at around 12:15 p.m. in front of Serendra Condominium on Bonifacio High Street, Taguig police chief, Senior Supt. Camilo Cascolan, said.

Noemi Nullas, Ang?s maid, said the victim was on his way to the airport to catch a 2 p.m. flight to Bacolod.

Cascolan said they would subject the body found inside the vehicle to a forensic examination to determine if it was Ang?s.

He ruled out the possibility that the explosion was caused by a bomb, saying that Scene of the Crime Operatives found a can containing traces of highly-combustible material inside the vehicle.

?The victim?s body bore no laceration caused by shrapnel or impact consequent to a bomb explosion,? Cascolan said.

In a statement, Ayala Land Inc., the developer of Serendra, said it was fully cooperating with authorities on the incident.

Taguig Mayor Freddie Tiñga, who was attending a meeting at a nearby establishment, heard the explosion and was one of the first to arrive at the scene. He immediately ordered the police to conduct an investigation.
