MANILA, Philippines – A jeepney driver helped police collar two men who had held up and robbed passengers of another jeepney in Quezon City on Christmas Day.

Chief Insp. Richie Claravall, head of the Quezon City Police detachment, identified the suspects as Jun Francisco, 38, and Melvin Pastores, 36.

Broad daylight

Claravall said the two had earlier boarded the jeepney and then robbed its passengers in broad daylight while cruising along Quezon Avenue.

A driver of another jeepney who saw the holdup decided to follow the suspects when they got off the first jeepney and boarded a passenger bus.

The driver, who asked not to be named, then informed a roving police patrol from the Galas police station about the case.

Chased the bus

The police patrol led by SPO4 Efren Reyes immediately gave chase and flagged down the bus and arrested the two suspects.

Claravall cited the help given by the driver and also commended the police mobile crew for its prompt response.

“Police efforts had paid off, the suspects were arrested and we were also able to recover the stolen materials,” he said.

Recovered from the suspects were two cell phones owned by a fast-food crew and a salesman who were both on their way to work.
