MANILA, Philippines ? Quezon City has extended to Jan. 31 the deadline for the payment of business taxes and fees.
Mayor Feliciano Belmonte said the extension of the deadline from Jan. 20 to the 31st was ?in the interest of the tax-paying public.?
Taxpayers who were unable to settle their obligations by Jan. 20 can pay not later than Jan. 31 without any penalty, surcharges or interest.
The extension was contained in an ordinance passed by the 26-member city council on Jan. 21. In extending the deadline, the council took into account the limited manpower of the city treasurer?s office, as well as the large volume of taxpayers. More than 65,000 business establishments operate in Quezon City.
Taxpayers can make their payments from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Those who fail to pay their business taxes and fees after the Jan. 31 deadline will have to pay a 25 percent surcharge and a monthly interest of two percent. It was learned that business taxes make up the bulk of the city?s revenues.
