LIMA?Peru's first lady, Pilar Nores, has acknowledged that she and President Alan Garcia have been separated for two years, local media reported Saturday.
Garcia admitted during his 2006 presidential campaign that he had fathered a child with economist Roxanne Cheesman, with whom he had an 18-month extra-marital affair.
Nores, an Argentine, told El Comercio newspaper that the couple tried to repair their marriage "but it didn't work." She said further details about the prolonged separation are "strictly personal."
Nores and Garcia have four children together.
Peru's presidential run-off is June 5. Voters will choose between leftist Ollanta Humala and conservative Keiko Fujimori.
