RIO DE JANEIRO--At least 10 people were killed Friday after being buried by a landslide in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro state, raising to 30 the number of deaths in the region following recent heavy rains and flooding, local press reported.

Officials said another 35 people were missing and believed buried by landslides after rains began inundating the region on Wednesday, according to the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper.

Friday's deaths occurred shortly after dawn in the town of Angra Dos Reyes, when a landslide from a nearby mountain buried a local inn, killing its occupants.

Some 60 rescue workers and firefighters were searching for possible survivors and additional victims, the daily reported.
