Suspect in Maguindanao massacre nabbed

MANILA, Philippines—After more than four years of hiding, another suspect in the heinous Maguindanao Massacre was arrested by authorities Wednesday night.

Chief Superintendent Benjamin Magalong of the  Philippine National Police(PNP)- Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said the suspect, Warden Kusain Legawan, a former police officer, was arrested in Barangay (village) Tanyag in Upper Bicutan, Taguig City.

Magalong said the suspect was charged with 36 counts of murder and malversation of government property.

The suspect is now detained at the PNP-CIDG in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

On the morning of November 23, 2009, 58 people including journalists and the kin of then Buluan Vice Mayor and now Maguindanao Gov. Esmael Mangudadatu were brutally killed while on a convoy to file Mangudadatu’s certificate of candidacy.
