MANILA, Philippines—An impending top level revamp in the Philippine National Police (PNP) triggered by the retirement of two senior police officials may affect several high-ranking policemen, a police spokesperson said Wednesday.

Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., PNP spokesperson, confirmed the reshuffle within the 135,000-strong police force, but declined to name the PNP officers who would be included in the shake-up.

Cruz said the movement was prompted by the retirement of Director Leon Nilo dela Cruz, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief, and Deputy Director General Perfecto Palad, the PNP’s second most senior officer.

Inquirer sources said Dela Cruz would be replaced by Calabarzon police director Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao.

Pagdilao’s post, in turn, would be taken over by Chief Superintendent Benjardi Mantele, incumbent Quezon City police director.

Deputy Director General Raul Castañeda, PNP chief of directorial staff, is expected to replace Palad, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1977.

Director Nicanor Bartolome was reported to be seen on his way out as chief of the National Capital Region Police Office and would take over Castañeda’s position.

Bartolome’s new assignment was purportedly in preparation for his eventual appointment as successor of PNP chief Director General Raul Bacalzo.
