MANILA, Philippines?Don't be fooled if you get a text message that you have won a load of cash from a raffle by the Office of the Vice President.

On Saturday, a day after April Fools Day, the OVP warned the public about a circulating text message claiming that the recipient won P850,000 in an electronic draw supposedly sponsored by Vice President Jejomar C. Binay.

?The Vice President and the OVP does not engage in any raffle games. This is an obvious scam and I am calling on the Filipino people to be careful of such fraud,? Benjamin Martinez, Binay?s chief of staff, said in a statement.

A variation of the text scam reads: ?Congratulations ur sim# had wonPHP (850,000.00). 2nd prize winner thru electronic raffle draw ?last March 11, 2011 \?HANDOG PANGKABUHAYAN from V-PRES. JOJO BINAY Charity fund. To: Claim ur prize call me now, Im Sec. Rey Dizon From: BSP INFO DEPT. dti ncr\?PRMT #8863 ser. 2011.?

Martinez said the message was sent through the mobile number 0926-5817064.

?Vice President Binay worries that some might get victimized by the scam. If you receive a text like this, please report it immediately,? he said.

In August last year, the OVP warned the public of a similar text scam that tried to trick recipients into believing they had won P750,000 in a raffle sponsored by a Millionaires? Club of the Vice President.

The office again alerted the public when another scam circulated, stating that Binay was buying land for government housing projects and for personal use.

?It is unfortunate that some people use the name of the vice president to deceive their fellow Filipinos. We will not tolerate such acts. We have requested the appropriate authorities to investigate into this concern,? Martinez said.
