MANILA, Philippines?(UPDATE) Hubert Webb, recently acquitted by the Supreme Court after spending 15 years in prison following his conviction in the sensational Vizconde massacre case, filed a complaint against Jessica Alfaro for false testimony at the Parañaque Prosecutor's Office on Friday.
A lower court judge had anchored Webb's conviction mostly on the testimony of Alfaro, who the Supreme Court ruled in its review of the conviction was not a reliable witness.
Webb arrived at the prosecutor's office past 2:30 p.m. accompanied by his lawyer Zenaida Ongkiko-Acorda.
"She has not shown any remorse," he told reporters, referring to Alfaro. "She should not be allowed to go scot-free."
Asked how the complaint could prosper considering that Alfaro now reportedly lives abroad, Acorda said what mattered was their legal team has identified her last known address where summonses could be served.
"After that, we'll take it from there," she said.
Webb insisted the filing was not a form of vengeance as ?she can't do anything to take back the years" he spent in jail.
"I'm doing this so that we can prevent another Jessica Alfaro from putting people behind bars," he said.
Webb and six others were ordered released by the Supreme Court last December, ruling that Alfaro's testimony was insuficient to convict the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
Webb and the others had been accused of murdering Estrellita Vizconde and her two daughters Carmela, 18, and Jennifer, 7, at their home in Parañaque in 1991. Carmela was also raped.
