MANILA, Philippines--Senate Minority Floor Leader Alan Peter Cayetano assured President Benigno Aquino III of the Senate minority's full support in the President's plans of solving the problems facing the country.
Cayetano said that one of the Senate's first moves was to ask members of the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors of all government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) to submit reports of their allowances and benefits to the Senate.
?Yung GOCCs isubmit nila para makita natin kung anu-anong GOCCs ang umaabuso ng kanilang allowances (We will ask officials of the GOCCs to submit their allowance reports so we can see which GOCCs are abusing their allowances),? Cayetano said.
Aside from this, Cayetano also said the Senate will help solve the problem of tax evaders and smugglers by finding those accountable within the agency itself.
?What other systems can we put in place para makita natin kung nagbabayad ng tamang buwis yung mga tao (so we can see who among the citizens are paying the right taxes). Kailangan may makasuhan din from the agency kasi wala namang smuggler kung walang pumapayag sa Customs (There should also be someone accountable from the agency because there won't be a smuggler if it is not condoned by someone from the Customs). Wala naman tax evader sa BIR kung walang pumapayag sa BIR (There won't be a tax evader if there's no one condoning it from the BIR),? he said.
Cayetano said when both the House and Senate majority convenes on Tuesday for the ?kontra-SONA,? it will be ?a different kind of minority,? where they will ?help out? the administration ?because we have the same objective and we'll be helping out on how we can get there.?
?We don't disagree. In fact, hindi lang si President Aquino ang nanalo (it's not President Aquino who won). Nanalo ang anti-Arroyo forces; nanalo ang oposisyon sa election (The anti-Arroyo forces won, the opposition won during the elections). We have common goals. So tomorrow we will discuss the specifics on the points that he said,? Cayetano added.
