MANILA, Philippines - Despite his detention, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is one of the biggest spenders in the Senate along with Senators Gregorio Honasan, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon ?Bong? Revilla Jr., according to a report by the Commission on Audit published Monday.
Trillanes ranked 4th with P17.2 million spent during the year, the biggest bulk of which went to the salaries and benefits of his staff with P8.6 million and P5.8 million for maintenance and other expenses (MOE).
Trillanes? staff incurred more than P1 million for travel expenses?P878, 496 and P253, 810 for local and foreign trips, respectively.
Honasan is the Senate?s top spender with P17.9 million, followed by Estrada with P17.5 million and Revilla with P17.4 million.
Senator Francis ?Kiko? Pangilinan is fifth spending P17.22 million, followed by Senator Benigno ?Noynoy? Aquino III with P16.7 million, Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile with P16.2 million, Senator Rodolfo Biazon with P16.02 million, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano with P16.01 million, his sister Senator Pia Cayetano with P15.92 million.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri ranked 11th with P15.91 million, 12th is Senator Manny Villar with P15.7 million, then Senator Jamby Madrigal with P15.568 million, Senator Francis ?Chiz? Escudero with P15.518 million, Senator Loren Legarda with P15.4 million, Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago with P15.37 million, 17th is Senator Manuel ?Lito? Lapid with P15.35 million, 18th is Senator Panfilo ?Ping? Lacson with P15.21 million, 19th is Senator Mar Roxas with P15.038 million and 20th is Senator Richard Gordon with P14.64 million.
At the bottom of the list are Senator Joker Arroyo with only P12.64 million spent for 2008, followed by Senator Edgardo Angara and Aquilino Pimentel Jr. P14.506 million and P14.38 million, respectively.
