MANILA, Philippines? Will she or will she not run?
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is still playing her cards close to her chest with only four days left before the last day of the filing of certificate of candidacy for the May 2010 polls.
Arroyo?s election lawyer, Romulo Macalintal, said Friday that the President might make an announcement of her political plans within the day, after he was called to Malacañang for a meeting.
But Macalintal said Arroyo did not give her decision yet.
?She did not say anything,? Macalintal said when asked about Arroyo?s decision, adding that she only smiled when he told her it would be better to make the announcement now.
?Based on her action, she?s willing to give it deep consideration. The President said we will talk again,? the lawyer told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview.
He added that Arroyo also mainly asked about ?election matters? involving ?some candidates, especially Cabinet members who would file their CoCs.?
Macalintal said it would be unlikely that Arroyo would file her CoC on Saturday.
Arroyo will meet with local officials of Pampanga in Malacañang Saturday morning, according to a close ally.
The political ally who did not want to be named said the President might announce her plans in their November 28 meeting.
Arroyo is reportedly eyeing a congressional seat in Pampanga?s second district, a post currently held by her eldest son, Pampanga Representative Juan Miguel ?Mikey? Arroyo.
On Friday, Palace guards allowed a group of farmers and fisherfolk calling for Arroyo to run to enter the Malacañang grounds.
