MANILA, Philippines—Despite Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr.'s warning about “midnight sales” of government properties, the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) will go on with its plans to dispose P140 billion worth of sequestered assets, according to a PCGG official.
PCGG commissioner Ricardo Abcede said on Thursday Pimentel did not have to worry about the sale of these properties because they went through a thorough and rigorous process before the government decided to sell them.
“There is no midnight sale or fire sales of government assets and the senator may hit the bed and sleep well. It takes unusually a long time to sell government properties. In fact, it can be tedious and exasperating,” Abcede said in a press conference.
Among the sequestered assets to be sold is the RC Mapalad property along Roxas Boulevard in Baclaran, Parañaque (worth P278,622,000). The bidding for this property will start on November 26, according to Abcede.
