MANILA, Philippines—A stalwart of the Liberal Party is pushing for a Roxas-Pangilinan tandem as a formidable team for the May 2010 elections.

Muntinlupa Representative Rufino Biazon, LP vice-chairman for the National Capital Region, said it was now time to go full blast in campaigning for the party.

"The party now is focused on its presidential candidate. It's about time that party look into its whole team and not just one candidate because the filing of the certificate of candidacy is nearing," he said.

Biazon said the party "should give due consideration to the declaration" of Senator Francis Pangilinan, who earlier announced plans to run for vice president.

"There is no other member who has declared, we have not been talking of a vice presidential candidates, so why not Kiko (Pangilinan’s nickname)," the congressman said.

Biazon said the LP should now begin showing a slate that could project "strength" to attract more members and candidates especially at the local level.

Biazon, as well as former Senator Franklin Drilon, is among the possible candidates for senator of the LP. Former congressman Nereus Acosta and Akbayan party-list Representative Risa Hontiveros will also likely run for senator under the party.
