MANILA, Philippines -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will visit evacuation centers in three cities in Northern Mindanao where thousands of families displaced by floods were placed, after presiding over a full Cabinet meeting there on Tuesday, Malacañang said.
A total of 38,764 people or 7,840 families were displaced by floods, triggered by heavy rains and high tide in 27 villages in the cities of Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, and Gingoog, the Palace said in a statement issued Tuesday.
Following the Cabinet meeting at her ancestral home in Iligan, the President will proceed to an evacuation center in the city to
"personally attend to the needs of the flood victims," it said.
On Wednesday, the President will distribute food packs in evacuation centers in the villages of Carmen and Macasandig in Cagayan de Oro City and in Gingoog City, the Palace said.
The President is in Mindanao on the first working week of 2009 for the Cabinet meeting and to check on flood victims and government infrastructure projects.
