IRIGA CITY, Philippines—A loud crashing sound created a commotion that sent security men scrambling just as President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was about to leave the new city hall here Thursday afternoon with local government officials and regional directors of government agencies.
It was learned that the crashing sound, mistaken for a forcible entry, was caused by the shattering of the glass pane separating the exit and entrance doors of the newly finished city hall.
A PSG member said the glass was broken as a rushing throng of media men trying to take photos of the President pushed against the glass wall.
The PSG scrambled but the commotion died down quickly as people realized it was not a security threat.
The President was in Iriga City in Camarines Sur on Thursday afternoon to talk with local officials and regional directors on the proposed Bicol River Basin and Watershed Management Project.
Earlier, in the morning, she was in Libmanan, Camarines Sur, to attend the birthday celebration of her son, First District Congressman Dato Arroyo, and announce several projects for the district.
