CAMP CASTANEDA, Silang, Cavite -- The new batch of junior police officers have assured President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of their loyalty, amid mounting calls for her resignation over allegations of corruption.

The Omansilang Class of 2008 of the Philippine National Police Academy, through valedictorian Clent Ven Inciso, gave this assurance to Arroyo during the graduation rites here.

"To her excellency, we assure you madame that we the Philippine National Police Academy Omansilang Class of 2008, will remain strong, loyal, and brave to protect our democracy for the welfare of the Filipino people and defend the republic," said Inciso during his speech.

The expression of loyalty drew applause from Arroyo's party, including Vice President Noli De Castro, Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno, and PNP Director General Avelino Razon, among others.

Arroyo herself was pleased by the valedictory speech, adding that she intended to stay in power until 2010.
