MANILA, Philippines—A canteen owner was found dead from several gunshots inside his parked car, with his valuables missing, early Saturday morning in Balintawak, Quezon City.

The victim, Dionisio Pascual, was discovered inside his black Nissan Frontier near the Edsan Market in Balintawak at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

PO3 Randy Escobido of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said Pascual had accompanied his wife to the market as usual but then someone shot him.

“No one was able to witness who shot the victim because the vehicle was parked in a dimly lit area and the victim’s wife only came back to see people making a fuss over her husband’s car,” Escobido said.

Pascual, 45, and his wife Jocelyn owned a canteen and were in the habit of shopping for food items for their canteen at the market every day at 3 a.m.

The victim and his wife owned a canteen at Alley 12 in Project 6, Quezon City, and were going about their daily routine Saturday morning with their helper, Billy Joel.

The helper and Jocelyn were shopping at the Edsan Market while Pascual was left behind to take a nap inside the parked vehicle.

The victim’s wife was surprised to see people milling around their vehicle and found her husband with four gunshot wounds and dead in the driver’s seat.

“We are initially looking at robbery as a motive because the victim’s wallet was missing, but we don’t know how much money was taken,” Escobido said.

The police investigator noted that no one was able to witness the crime because the surroundings near the car were too dark at the time.
